Special Olympics athletes show passion and bravery at recent swim meet

Over 200 athletes from surrounding communities came to Oakville recently for the Special Olympics Ontario Oakville Marlins Swim Meet.

Over 200 athletes from surrounding communities came to Oakville recently for the Special Olympics Ontario Oakville Marlins Swim Meet.

The event was held last Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre pool.

“This event showcases the incredible talent, determination, and spirit of these athletes, who have intellectual or developmental disabilities,” said organizers in a news release. 

“It is a day filled with passion, bravery, and personal bests.”

Organizers add they’re incredibly grateful to the over 40 volunteers that helped out at the meet, along with 100 Women Who Care Oakville, TELUS, TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, and Mayor Rob Burton, who was a distinguished guest in attendance.

Iroquois Ridge Community Centre hosts multiple swim meets for various organizations each year.
