Halton police are investigating following an incident where a vehicle was reportedly set on fire in front of an Oakville residence on Thursday, March 21.

According to Const. Ryan Anderson from Halton Police, at approximately 1:50 a.m. an individual, believed to be acting alone, approached a residence on Abernathy Way

Allegedly, this person poured a substance, suspected to be an accelerant, onto a vehicle parked in the driveway of the home and ignited it before fleeing the scene.

Emergency services, including the Oakville Fire Department, responded to the incident and managed to extinguish the fire. When they arrived on scene, the vehicle fire was described as “fully involved.”

Oakville fire began checking the house to make sure the flames had not spread inside.

The owner of the home told Oakville News that their family of five was home at the time of the incident. Everyone was asleep except for their youngest son.

"Our dog Oscar alerted us because he was running in the house and my son checked the cameras and he saw the flames outside," said the homeowner.

After reviewing the cameras, the family alleges that there were two suspects involved as they saw a passenger come out of a vehicle and pour the liquid.

There were no reported injuries, and police have not made any arrests at this time.

Police could only describe the suspect as an individual wearing dark clothing and a face covering.
