The town of Oakville is reporting they received an investment of nearly $3 million that will go towards supporting upgrades to Oakville Transit.

As part of the 2024 Ontario Gas Tax Funding program, Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford has announced that the Ontario government will invest $2,892,944 towards local transportation in Oakville.

The Town of Oakville says the funding will go towards enhancements such as conventional and specialized electric buses, bus stop accessibility upgrades, and other transit operation improvements, according to Gisele Shaw, the town's Communications Manager.

MPP Crawford says the funding can also be used to extend hours of service, buy transit vehicles, and add new routes.

According to Mayor Rob Burton, "I welcome the gas tax funding that will support Oakville Transit, enable ongoing enhancements to our public transit system and enrich the transit user experience."

This investment comes around the same time a new mobile app for scheduling trips with Oakville Transit was introduced.
